Better to ask will it reach $150 this Summer? Very much a possibility.

Unfortunately that's outdated. More like $115 per barrel by this summer is highly likely to be true, if not more.

The no-sayers were wrong, the only uncertainty being whether greater than $85 per barrel happened in 2007 or 2008. I find it amusing that so many are attempting to explain the oil price in terms of short term factors like seasons (holidays), supply accidents, or political events. These factors have always been there and will always be there. They affect(ed) oil price by less than +/-20%, regardless whether the price was/is/will be $20, $40, $80, or $160 per barrel. The reason for the current (perceived high) oil price cannot be any of these short term factors, making it very likely that the underlying reason is that oil companies could not replace from new finds what they have produced. Prices will have to go high enough to cut consumption. Reduced consumption can also happen because of customer action, political action, gaslines, or because an economic recession occurs. Personally, I think it should happen before the recession forces it, or before regional physical shortages occur (=gaslines), but that means high prices or forcing consumption cuts which is very unpopular. As long as "business as usual" political scenarios prevail, prices will go higher (the market option of forcing reduced consumption) - just wait for more fed interest rate cuts!

If prices keep rising like they are, $85 may soon sound like a bargain!
